PLANT OPERATOR TRAINING
Background: Under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 employers are obliged to ensure that individuals engaged in plant operations have received adequate training for the equipment they are to operate and detailed records of such training are maintained.
The type and duration of training will vary depending on the complexity of the equipment, experience of the operator and the tasks to be preformed.
Training will take place on-site at company premises using the plant/equipment the operator would be required to use.
Courses will consist of both theory and practical training, the instructor will be fully equipped (as appropriate) with videos, DVD , flip charts etc and will supply the operator with a reference manual specific to the classification of the plant/equipment to be used.
If the plant/equipment is required in anyway to lift, the course will also incorporate the Lifting Operations Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998.
Dress & Equipment: For the practical training you are to provide your own safety boots/shoes to include ‘toe tectors' (steel toe cap footwear), hard-hat, high visibility vest and gloves.
There is no legal requirement to hold a driving licence if you are operating off the public highway. If you are required to drive along the public highway you may require additional driver training such as category G for road rollers, or category H for tracked equipment.
Theory & Practical Examinations: At the end of your training you will receive a theory and practical test. Upon successful completion, certification will be awarded as appropriate on a laminated A4 certificate and (if required) a plastic coated identity card.
