FORK LIFT TRUCK (FLT) OPERATOR TRAINING
Background: Being trained as a Fork Lift Truck (FLT) operator is a specific skill keenly sought after by companies involved in Logistics' and Warehousing. The FLT operator course will vary in duration depending on the requirement of the company or individual.
Training can take place on-site at company premises using your own equipment or at a local Road Transport Industry Training Board (RTITB) accredited training centre in Cardiff . Training offered to private clients at the training centre are:
- Counterbalance Fork Lift
- Reach Fork Lift
In addition to the above, we also have experienced instructors who can go on-site to train operators in the work-place on additional lift trucks, such as:
- Telescopic Handler
- Rough Terrain
- Order Picker
- Side Loader
- Special Attachments
Theory & Practical Training: The training will be conducted in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act (HSWA) 1974, Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 and the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998.

- Changing LPG Cylinders
- Battery Care
- Attachments
- End of Shift & Defect Reporting
Dress & Equipment: For the practical training you are to provide your own safety boots/shoes to include ‘toe tectors' (steel toe cap footwear). Big Wheelers ( South Wales ) Limited will NOT accept any responsibility should you injure your foot/feet as a result of inadequate footwear. At the training centre you will be provided with additional PPE as required.
There is no legal requirement to hold a car or LGV licence as you will not be operating on the public highway. As a structured part of your course the instructor will familiarise you with all the FLT controls prior to operation.
Theory & Practical Examinations: At the end of your scheduled training you will receive a theory and practical test. Upon successful completion, certification will be awarded as appropriate on a laminated A4 certificate and plastic coated identity card. You will also be given a comprehensive training manual for future reference.
